Abstract: Identifies 25 visible tephra layers from past 340 ka in ice core drilled to 2503 m depth at Dome Fuji, Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Discusses significance and duration at deposition, showing violent volcanic eruption at 117 ka BP. Two tephra layers appear to have originated from South Sandwich Islands, Southern Ocean. Eight layers can also be recognized in Vostok (Antarctica) ice core, but all correspond to Vostok tephras if cloudy bands are considered to be volcanic.
