| Abstract: | Describes journey in summer 1799 by Johann Schmidt, translated from German by Anders Løøv. Route went through Hälsingland and Härjedal. Welcomed by Saami of Gröndal with strong, fresh reindeer milk - refreshing when diluted with water - they studied cheese making and assessed hosts' competence in reading and speaking Swedish. Lavvo and occupants were very clean and neat. Rain was no problem, despite smoke hole. Lundmark likens Schmidt's assessment of Saami's "easy life" to Carl von Linné's.
