Abstract: Describes background of Vasiliy N.Ledkov, Nenets contributor to anthology "Der veiene tar til" (Where the paths begin). Explains who Nenets are, their language and potted history. Ledkov studied at Herzen Institute, St Petersburg, with other northerners, including Yuriy Rytkheu from Chukotka and Mansi Ivan Shestalov. He translated "Kalevala" into Nenets and lives in Archangel.
