Frostbite - susceptibility, prevention and immediate treatment / S.S. Purkayastha, W. Selvamurthy.

Title: Frostbite - susceptibility, prevention and immediate treatment / S.S. Purkayastha, W. Selvamurthy.
Author(s): Purkayastha, S. S.
Selvamurthy, W.
Date: 1999.
Abstract: Experiments show animals with higher peripheral vascular response are better protected against cold injury, so tests incorporating this can be used to identify individuals prone to frostbite. Acclimatisation is helpful. Describes various means of treatment, success of which really depended on speed of application. Finds pentoxifylline and aspirin along with high dose of vitamin C, preceded by rapid rewarming in decoction of tea leaves maintained at 37-39°C, seems promising as immediate treatment.
