Abstract: When ice sheet retreated from upper parts of Iceland at end of last ice age, tongue which lay in Borgarfjördhur retreated from Mýra. When warming process slowed, glacier snout and stretch of heathland above lower Nordhurárdal and around THverárhlídh moved into lowlands. This happened 12 000 years ago, in so-called Álftanes Period. Glacier tongue which lay along Nordhurárdal met considerable resistance from ridge at mouth of valley. This is hill between farms Laxfoss and Munadharnes in Mýra district.
