Abstract: Suggests that extensive thin ice sheets grew and decayed many times within Pleistocene era. Recession of these thin ice sheets was much faster than degradation of massive ice sheets, and released melt water that transformed landscape dramatically. Underestimation of this point is one cause of disagreement in interpreting origin of polar landscapes.
