Abstract: Shows annual air temperature warming by 0.5°C with 10%-20% increase in precipitation in interior Xinjiang, China, since late 1970s. Analysis of streamflow over 40 years showed stream meltwater did not respond to climatic fluctuations in 1980s, in fact decreased slightly. Summer discharge was delayed and slightly increased. Seasonal flow in May showed most sensitive response to climate fluctuation. Current climate favours glacier development.
