Abstract: Fisheries are now much most important occupation in Greenland. Value of exports is c. 36 000 Dkr per person. Value to island is matched only by Danish subsidy. Of this, deepwater shrimp Pandalus borealis is 66%. Fish catches are all in territorial waters except few from Svalbard. EU has quota on east coast in exchange for market. History of fisheries and data of catches are given. Most important fish and shellfish are described. Conflict exists between large trawlers catching for market and boats for local use. Much waste due to quota system has been reduced by inspectorate.
