Ikerasaarsuk - En bygd i Vestgrønland / Anon.

Title: Ikerasaarsuk - En bygd i Vestgrønland / Anon.
Translated title: Ikerasaarsuk - a village in West Greenland.
Date: 1999.
Publisher: Århus, Denmark: Forlaget Systime
Language: Danish.
In: Inuit, kultur og samfund. En grundbog i eskimologi. (1999.), Vol. 16
Abstract: Article considers community's survival, suitability to Arctic nature, and to political and economical requirements. District is 43 000 km², with 5 000 fishable water. Ice lies from Dec to early May. When government classified Ikerasaarsuk as due for abandonment, villagers resisted. They had heard of social problems in town; besides there was good free meat and fish, except when weather prevented going out. Income is low, but fish, birds and hunted animals are abundant. But population increase requires bigger catches, as do low prices from Royal Greenland, while certain mammals and fish are protected.
