Monitoring of environmental conditions in a severe climate: How this can assist in development of conservation strategies for historic buildings and artefacts in Antarctica / Janet Hughes, Colin Pearson, Vinod Daniel, Ivan Cole.
Title: | Monitoring of environmental conditions in a severe climate: How this can assist in development of conservation strategies for historic buildings and artefacts in Antarctica / Janet Hughes, Colin Pearson, Vinod Daniel, Ivan Cole. |
Author(s): | Hughes, Janet. Pearson, Colin. Daniel, Vinod. Cole, Ivan. |
Date: | 1999. |
Publisher: | Lyon, France: ICOM Committee for Conservation |
Abstract: | Outlines rationale of project to measure temperature, humidity and other factors controlling deterioration of materials at historic sites in Antarctica, with particular reference to timber and metal at hut of Mawson's 1911-14 expedition at Cape Denison. Describes proposed use of electronic sensors to record data for modelling potential effects of ice removal, and reports preliminary results indicating increased risk of high fluctuating relative humidity if ice is removed. |
Notes: | Offprint: Twelfth Triennial Meeting of the International Council of Museums. Reprints. Volume I. Lyon, 29 August - 3 September 1999 / Anon. |
