| Abstract: | Analyses data from snow avalanche stations to estimate avalanche activity in differing snow conditions. In 1936-78 17 winters with high snowfall and 12 with low snowfall were identified in sub-Arctic mountainous regions. Connects heaviness of snowfall to avalanche activity. Height is also a factor. Includes data on Khibiny, Caucasus, Tien-Shan and Kamchatka. |
