| Abstract: | Uses data from 1985 fieldwork in Scotia Sea to describe vertical distribution of phytoplankton and discusses relationship between vertical distribution in terms of quantity, biomass, dominant genera and species; and temperature conditions, density gradient and nutrients. Distinguishes between uneven vertical distribution with two maxima in upwelling zones; and more even vertical distribution in coastal areas associated with sinking cold water. |
