Record #149536:

The concept of universe and spiritual beings among contemporary Yakut shamans: the revitalization of animistic belief and shamanic tradition / Takako Yamada.

Title: The concept of universe and spiritual beings among contemporary Yakut shamans: the revitalization of animistic belief and shamanic tradition / Takako Yamada.
Author(s): Yamada, Takako.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Sapporo, Japan: Hokkaido University Press
In: Circumpolar animism and shamanism. (1998.),
Abstract: Study based chiefly on field work carried out in Sakha Republic in 1994. Seeks to show how concepts of, and beliefs in, spiritual beings are reintegrated into new view of the world, and that an animistic belief can be formed by an interpretation of individual experiences based on one's own view of the world. Suggests further that belief in spiritual beings is closely related to shamanic tradition and determines its form.
