Abstract: Report of workshop held in Hobart 25-28 August 1998 focusing on diseases of birds and seals breeding within Antarctic Treaty area and on some sub-Antarctic islands. Overview of disease in Antarctica includes endemic diseases, outbreaks, exposure to infectious agents, detection, and factors influencing introduction and spread of disease. Summarises reports of working groups on risks, monitoring, prevention, response and research requirements, and gives recommendations arising from workshop. Includes extended abstracts.
