Record #148592:

Slushflow hazard --- where, why and when? 25 years of experience with slushflow consulting and research / Erik Hestnes.

Title: Slushflow hazard --- where, why and when? 25 years of experience with slushflow consulting and research / Erik Hestnes.
Author(s): Hestnes, Erik.
Date: 1998.
In: Annals of Glaciology. (1998.), Vol. 26 (1998)
Abstract: Presents results of 25 years of studying slushflows in Norway. Slushflow release is caused by basal shear failure aided by water pressure causing loss of basal support, then tensile failure through snowpack. Summarizes methods of hazard evaluation and acute-hazard prediction and warning, including estimation of water supply. Slushflows occur in all countries with seasonal snow cover, so these studies have general validity.
