Changes in distribution and habitat use of Svalbard light-bellied brent geese, 1980-1995: driven by Zostera availability? / Preben Clausen, Steve M. Percival.
Title: | Changes in distribution and habitat use of Svalbard light-bellied brent geese, 1980-1995: driven by Zostera availability? / Preben Clausen, Steve M. Percival. |

Date: | 1998. |
In: | Norsk Polarinstitutt. Skrifter. (1998.), Vol. 200 (1998) |
Abstract: | Svalbard population, which winters in Denmark and at Lindisfarne, changed distribution and habitat use in its six usual areas during 1980s and colonised new areas in 1980s and 1990s. Causes seem to be: reduction or disappearance of Zostera beds in four areas due to increased eutrophication and possibly to changes in sedimentation processes; over- consumption by increased goose use. Also, salt marshes were less farmed. Implications are discussed and management changes recommended. |
