Record #148473:

Behaviour and energetics of Svalbard barnacle geese during their autumn migration / Patrick J. Butler, Anthony J. Woakes.

Title: Behaviour and energetics of Svalbard barnacle geese during their autumn migration / Patrick J. Butler, Anthony J. Woakes.
Author(s): Butler, Patrick J.
Woakes, Anthony J.
Date: 1998.
In: Norsk Polarinstitutt. Skrifter. (1998.), Vol. 200 (1998)
Abstract: It was suggested that geese fly for 30-40 hours non-stop from Bear Island to Caerlaverock, which would use up nearly all their fat. Satellite transmitters were fitted in summers of 1994 and 1995 and heart rate loggers were implanted into other stomachs in 1995. None flew non-stop, but hugged Norwegian coast, with average flight of 13 hours. Heart rate was lower than that of geese following truck or in wind tunnel.
