Abstract: Investigates extent to which six closed cities in Murmanskaya Oblast' (Zaozersk, Skalisty, Polyarnyy, Snezhnogorsk, Severomorsk and Ostrovnoy), which are either military or nuclear cities, are being integrated into social fabric of Russia as measured by strength of linkages between institutions and peoples inside and outside these cities. Examines relationship between civilian and military authority within cities. Pays particular attention to similarities and differences among these cities in terms of economics activities, current situation, and links with outside world.
