| Abstract: | Describes return to herding of reindeer on (Icelandic) horseback in Jiingevaerie Saami settlement under leadership of Antaris Persson and his family. There are advantages in conversation, enjoyment of scenery, personal comfort, and family participation, but there are problems, such as bear predation, winter feed and exercise for horses, and horses' feelings about herding dogs, which have nearly died out anyway. Horses are no kinder to mires than bikes. Finances (it has subsidy at present) are confidential. |
