Abstract: Describes osteological characteristics distinguishing South Georgia diving petrel Pelecanoides georgicus from common diving petrel Pelecanoides urinatrix. Discusses Holocene fossil deposits indicating formerly large Pacific population of P. georgicus, and importance of Codfish Island population as remnant of high conservation priority.
