Record #147507:

On the variation during the past 400 years of the Barents Sea ice edge position and northern hemisphere temperatures / Torgny Vinje.

Title: On the variation during the past 400 years of the Barents Sea ice edge position and northern hemisphere temperatures / Torgny Vinje.
Author(s): Vinje, Torgny.
Date: 1998.
In: WCRP (Series). (1998.), Vol. 106(908) (1998)
Abstract: Series of ice maps has been compiled from literature, log books and other material. August ice edge position in western Barents Sea is considered. 20 year correspondence between deviation from 1961-1992 mean and hemisphere temperature from its 1960-1990 mean shows correlation where 82% of variance is statistically explained. Extrapolation shows decrease in temperature from c. 1580 to 1650, increase to 1760 and decrease from 1760 to 1790. Increase followed, with implication that we are about to leave Little Ice Age.
