Record #147500:
Sensitivity of the present day circulation in the Nordic seas to changes in the external forcing / Göran Björk, Bo Gustafsson, Anders Stigebrandt.
Title: | Sensitivity of the present day circulation in the Nordic seas to changes in the external forcing / Göran Björk, Bo Gustafsson, Anders Stigebrandt. |
Author(s): | Björk, Göran. Gustafsson, Bo. Stigebrandt, Anders. |
Date: | 1998. |
In: | WCRP (Series). (1998.), Vol. 106(908) (1998) |
Abstract: | Upper 500 m is strongly typed by inflows of fresh, cold Arctic and salty, warm Atlantic waters, with re-circulation of cool, fairly fresh Icelandic water. Fields of vertically integrated quantities were calculated: freshwater content, heat content and potential energy, using NODC data up to 1992. Besides expected results, spread of East Greenland Current along Greenland-Scotland Ridge is shown. This and similar effect by Jan Mayen suggest topographic blocking. Eventually density contrast may change sign, establishing estuarine circulation like Arctic Ocean. |
