Abstract: | Data was taken from 10 informants. Both sea Saami and Kautokeino dialects are found. Four groups are: independent, translated, adjusted pairs, and combination of last two. Meanings may come from terrain, animals, plants, colour, rock type, weather (e.g. first place where fog appears), tracks, hunting, trapping or fishing, reindeer herding, farming, or trade. One name each was found for church or Saami tradition offering place. |
