Abstract: Article attempts to discover traditional knowledge passed from woman to woman. Plants included Tanacetum parthenium as virginity tester, horsetail or milfoil for enuresis, tansy or parsley for menstruation, thyme for painful childbirth, tormentil as contraceptive, or purslane to curb lust, wormwood or "loosening stones" (beans held in hand) for birth problems, birch buds to help out afterbirth (Saami remedy), southernwood for abortion, gang flower for more milk, and hops for menopause. Some were cultivated, and author asks whether it could have been done specially for women's needs.
