Abstract: | Onion family have been used in northern Norway for medicine, magic and food. 5 species are cultivated and 3 wild ones are used a lot. Saami did not use them much, except against colds. Wild garlic and Allium victorialis were probably important once; latter had many local names, and has been used extensively in Europe and Asia. Vikings had laukagardr probably for several sorts of onion, discussed by F.C.Schübeler. |
