Abstract: | Population in alpine valley was studied for two seasons. Only Bombus alpinus and B. hyperboreus are common there, the latter obligate nest parasite on former, which is four times as numerous. Authors estimated queens in area as c. 350, having time to produce only one batch of workers, or possibly two overlapping batches. Main pollen and nectar source is Saxifraga oppositifolia in early part of season, and only two species are preferred later. |
