Abstract: | Author of several books on Greenland decided to write historical novel about Poq and his journey to Denmark in 1724, with aim in part to redress Greenlanders' low self-estimation. He went to Saqqaq, 60 mi north of Ilulissat with his wife in March in -30 outside, 0 deg. inside. Greenlanders kept away at start, thinking they had come for taxes. Saqqaq means "place where sun shines and icebergs sail". He describes aspects of way of life, of potential for young and some new European colonists. |
