Abstract: | Article describes attitudes of settled population to nomads, used as scapegoats and to symbolise irrationality, barbarism and myth. Hegel, Nietzsche their French followers are quoted. Foucault is quoted on nomads' side, though admittedly his ideas were "full of holes". To him, nomads are always in place, yet always somewhere other than expected. Their philosophy is similar. Discussion ends with some ideas of Johan Turi on Swedish government's ignorant goodwill towards Saami. |
