Abstract: 336 days of geodetic phase of ERS-1 provide dense coverage of whole Inland Ice. Errors in altimeter data used in digital elevation model were compared with airborne laser altimeter data, typically 10 cm accurate. Differences showed correlation with surface slope. Explanation is given in terms of pattern of surface roughness of ice.
