A high-latitude observation of sporadic sodium and sporadic E- layer formation / C.J. Heinselman, J.P. Thayer.
Title: | A high-latitude observation of sporadic sodium and sporadic E- layer formation / C.J. Heinselman, J.P. Thayer. |
Author(s): | Heinselman, C. J. Thayer, J. P. |
Date: | 1998. |
In: | Geophysical Research Letters. (1998.), Vol. 25(16) (1998) |
Abstract: | High-resolution radar and lidar measurements of sporadic sodium and sporadic E layers were made at Sondrestrom incoherent-scatter radar facility on 11 December 1997. Measurements suggested causal link between layers, supporting proposed mechanism in which Na⁺ ions in E, are neutralised to form Na,. This Na, does not seem to have been formed in presence of auroral precipitation or ionisation; sodium density decreases during aurora. |
