| Abstract: | Rayleigh lidar measurements of Arctic summer stratosphere and mesosphere have been conducted routinely since 1994 at Sondrestrom near Kangerlussuaq (67 deg.N, 50.9 deg.W). 17 separate events of noctilucent clouds, besides corresponding stratospheric wave structure, were seen. Two results are presented: occurrence of persistent quasi-monochromatic wave structure with vertical wavelengths of 8 to 12 km and periods of 2-3 hours, and evidence that strength of such waves may be associated with strength of observed cloud volume backscatter coefficient. |
