Record #146751:

Släktskapen mellan islänningar och samer / John Gustavsen.

Title: Släktskapen mellan islänningar och samer / John Gustavsen.
Translated title: Kinship between Icelanders and Saami.
Author(s): Gustavsen, John.
Date: 1998.
Language: Norwegian.
In: Samefolket. (1998.), Vol. 79(4) (1998)
Abstract: Article reviews Heimir Pálsson's book "Úr landnordri. Samar og ystu raetur íslenskrar menningar" (From the north-east. The earliest roots of Saami and Icelandic cultures). Author uses folk tales and linguistic material to set up links beyond usual Irish and Norse origins of Icelanders. Examples are "samsveinar" and "lappar" in Flateyarbók. Trade with and raids on Finnmark were common. Some spells can be taken as done by Saami noaidi. Reviewer is not convinced, but it is very likely that some Saami did get to Iceland, as they have got to other parts of globe.
