Abstract: Hall-Héroult method is explained. Alumina comes from Australia and processing uses lots of electricity to keep melt liquid and to reduce aluminium oxide. Process has been made cleaner by putting hoods on pots and by filtering fumes. Perfluorocarbons, non-toxic and ozone neutral, can be emitted, but even these have been reduced.
