Stratigraphy, palaeomagnetism and age of volcanics in the upper regions of THjórsárdalur valley, central southern Iceland / Léo Kristjánsson, Robert A. Duncan, Ágúst Gudhmundsson.
Title: | Stratigraphy, palaeomagnetism and age of volcanics in the upper regions of THjórsárdalur valley, central southern Iceland / Léo Kristjánsson, Robert A. Duncan, Ágúst Gudhmundsson. |
Author(s): | Kristjánsson, Léo. Duncan, Robert A. Gudhmundsson, Ágúst. |
Date: | 1998. |
In: | Boreas. (1998.), Vol. 27(1) (1998) |
Abstract: | "Hreppar Formation" is succession of basalt lavas and clastic material, with slight anticlinal structure. It may represent crustal fragment left by eastwards movement of active spreading zone during past 2-3 Ma. Evidence of several cycles by alternating glacial-interglacials is seen. Stratigraphic study was combined with K-Ar age determinations. Units from Jaramillo geomagnetic subchron are present, and at least one polarity reversal in lower Matuyama chron is recorded. |
Notes: | Boreas. Vol. 27(1) :1-13 (1998). |
Keywords: | 54.027 -- Isotope analysis. 550.384.3 -- Palaeomagnetism, secular change. 551.7 -- Stratigraphy. B -- Geology and soil sciences. (*3) -- Arctic regions. (*35) -- Iceland. |
