Abstract: Explores in detail thermal microenvironment of polar desert plants, particularly in relation to development of surface crusts of cryptogamic organisms (mosses, cyanobacteria, fungi and lichens). Includes descriptive analysis of air, soil, and plant thermal characteristics over four summers, as well as direct experimental evaluation of effect of cryptogamic surface crust on plant thermal environents.
