| Abstract: | Describes development of parameterization of downwelling shortwave radiation flux at Arctic surface and makes comparison with existing schemes of sea ice near Resolute, Northwest Territories, Canada, and data from Barrow, Alaska, considered representative of Arctic maritime climate. This parameterization can estimate downwelling shortwave flux with mean and root mean square errors of 1 and 5%, respectively, for clear conditions and 5 and 20% for cloudy conditions. Offers unified approach more accurate than current schemes. |
