Abstract: Describes one-dimensional (1-D) thermodynamic sea-ice model with parameterized ice dynamics coupled to mixed-layer ocean model and driven with prescribed atmospheric forcings for central Arctic. Calculates sensitivity of ice pack to various parameterizations which have previously received little attention. Results suggest solar energy absorbed in mixed layer should divide nearly evenly between warming water and lateral melting of ice. Bottom-melting parameterizaiton has little effect on ice thickness. Results from this model may be useful for large-scale cliomate models requiring balance between sophisticated physics and computational efficiency.
