Abstract: To Siberian and Central Asian peoples "Kut" means something like "the potential of life", "the soul", etc. This view is connected to some ancient traditions of Turkic peoples. Traces relation of "kut" to goddess of fertility, Umay, particularly with regard to finds of placenta bags in tombs dating from 8th-18th centuries.
