Record #145101:

Ancient skin clothing passing through Copenhagen / Anne Bahnson.

Title: Ancient skin clothing passing through Copenhagen / Anne Bahnson.
Author(s): Bahnson, Anne.
Date: 1997.
Abstract: (More detailed version in Grønland Nov. 1998). From end of 15th Cent. to 1900 basic patterns hardly changed. Fashion counted for much of women's design, but all were highly practical. Men's and women's clothing are described, followed by items from Worm's collection of 1642, painting of four Greenlanders from 1654 and Pooq and Qiperoq, 1724. All costumes were sold in 1824. New collection began in 1839. It went slowly, as few Greenlanders had any spare. High prices for local goods and low for imported caused people to sell almost all their clothing and freeze. Brief note on changes after 1900.
