Record #145067:

Aboriginal subsistence whaling - a contemporary outlook (1988) / Moses Olsen.

Title: Aboriginal subsistence whaling - a contemporary outlook (1988) / Moses Olsen.
Author(s): Olsen, Moses.
Date: 1997.
Publisher: Edmonton: Canadian Circumpolar Institute
In: Anthropology of community-based whaling in Greenland. (1997.), Vol. 1
Abstract: Author makes point that use of whales in Greenland is form of respect and reverence, not disrespect. Nutritional value is fundamental. Greater cooperation is needed between local management systems and international authorities, as local systems cannot cope with pressures on Arctic fauna. Inuit must play role in decision making, and beware of politicised scientific decisions. Paper closes with suggestions how Inuit and IWC could work more closely together for benefit of both Greenlanders and whales.
