Record #144984:

Interactions between capelin (Mallotus villosus) and other species and the significance of such interactions for the management and harvesting of marine ecosystems in the northern North Atlantic / Hjálmar Vilhjálmsson.

Title: Interactions between capelin (Mallotus villosus) and other species and the significance of such interactions for the management and harvesting of marine ecosystems in the northern North Atlantic / Hjálmar Vilhjálmsson.
Author(s): Vilhjálmsson, Hjálmar.
Date: 1997.
In: Rit Fiskideildar. (1997.), XV(1) (1997)
Abstract: Report gives simplified overview of three ecosystems in North Atlantic: Barents Sea, Icelandic waters and banks off Newfoundland and Labrador. Capelin are very important in all three, but there are considerable differences with regard to physical environment and direct economic importance of capelin to fishing and processing sectors, besides indirect importance through interactions with other species. Failure of Canadian attempt to manage crashed stock is described, and caution is expressed (quoting Oscar Wilde) about trusting mathematical models too implicitly.
