| Abstract: | Presents first results from multidisciplinary research cruises of R/V Italica in Ross Sea and Terra Nova Bay areas during austral spring, describing evolution of marine ecosystem in relation to ice melting, and sediment structure in Ross Sea. Includes dissolved oxygen and nutrient distribution in sea water; primary production; productivity and energetics of phytoplankton; microbial biomass and respiratory activity; particulate organic matter and biology of sea ice; and marine biological studies in Terra Nova Bay. |
