Abstract: Describes symbolism of swings in Komi Republic, numerology of poles supporting it and swings used in courtship and marriage rituals; (more in Swedish) describes May morning in Archangel and visit to Pomor village Kianda with its travelled journalist, who wrote first Punjabi-Russian dictionary; (more in Norwegian and Swedish) librarian and former headmaster describe life on border and dramatic changes in recent years. Latter now teaches Norwegian in Nikel, finding Russian children neat, polite and usually studious compared with Norwegians, and flourishing cultural life.
