Abstract: | Russian fisherman describes fishing holiday on lake and desolation caused by poaching on River Onega under collectivisation; travel in northern Norway among Saami, Kven and Russians, with king crabs and problems of language - including compulsory Saami - , and prostitution; travel with Nenets and Komi reindeer herders from tundra of Kanin Peninsula to slaughter places in woodland winter camps; and visit with stalker Jelena Michailova, supplementing income as history lecturer, to Kanti-Mansi reindeer herding pastures, with descriptions of herders' daily life and traditions. |
