| Abstract: | Authors evaluated applicability, accuracy and efficiency of line-transect sampling as alternative method for evaluating breeding density of male ptarmigan, comparing it with Hayne's estimators in 6 sub-Alpine areas of Yukon. 231 km of transects were compared with 77 ha grid in 1995 and 1996. Generalised Hayne's estimator was not robust. Authors conclude that "health" of population cannot be assessed from small area. |
