Abstract: Paper considers historic aspects, today's production and its structure, combination with other occupations, women's place, employment, and relations between national land use policy and Saami political goals. Statistics compare Saami situation (e.g. greater proportion of women owning land) with that of Norwegians and Swedes and give proportions of men and women earning from both agriculture and elsewhere. Mechanisation has transferred some kinds of work to men.
