| Abstract: | Speaker worked for 22 years in fish oil plant, "commuting" at long intervals to family and farm. Radical atmosphere in university fostered, unusually, apparent intention to work land. In Saami settlements, battle for speech and culture was confident. Finnmark Farmers' Association aims to give settlement prior rights to hunting and fishing, with management and licence income at local level. Talk also deals with migration of Saami, in particular, from agriculture, convergence of Norwegian and Saami ways of life, need to involve and recruit youth, and conflicts between farmers and reindeer herders. |
