| Abstract: | Paper is based on small Saami settlement in Tana. It covers four themes: importance of outer pasture resources; characteristics of local management; traditional harvesting of resources; what can be learnt, and how this knowledge can support management which is both culturally and ecologically sustainable. First category is both economic (though locals do not distinguish between working in outer pastures, harvesting in them and taking recreation in them) and social. Narrative traditions find historic anchorage in locality; locality owns them. |
