Abstract: Kåfjord district was used for research, starting from 1984, when fjord joined Saami Development Fund. Structure in terms of "årsverk", changes by settlement and numbers of occupations held are tabulated. Average of those concerned is 40 and new generation is starting to take over - there is no sign here of way of life dying. Some joint occupations are listed. There has always been cultivation, which has helped to tie people to land; since 1950s splitting-up tradition has not been rational policy, and has been hindrance to cultivation for market.
