| Abstract: | Paper discusses Saami rights in view of ILO Convention 169 and worldwide drive for minority peoples' rights. Colonialists' traditions of ownership have to be changed to fit local concepts. Impact of trawlers on fjords and line fishermen is considered; if Saami rights are reasserted there, so will those of Norwegians living same way - they cannot be expected to atone for their ancestors' ignorance of Saami rights. Fortunately, Norway is rich country, with only one minority to satisfy. |
